Weekend in Paris

More lovely photos from Emily's European trip - she has the weekend in Paris, with lots of free time.  I'm hoping for lots of pictures later!
This is the view from her hotel lobby looking out at the rainy, gray day - but hey, she's in Paris!

Gorgeous bar, somewhere in Paris.

Gorgeous daughter, somewhere in Paris - I don't even care that it's not the best photo - I like of like it...with all those colors, it makes it look rather magical - like a weekend in Paris! Enjoy your time there, Emily!

Emily's Amazing Adventure - Europe Trip 2013

My older daughter, Emily, is on a school trip (Boston University School of Management) to Europe.  They are visiting:  London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, and Budapest over a 2-week period.
Emily has been sending photos via What's App - great way to communicate over long distances!

Emily in a London pub.

Flora Holland - look at all of those hydrangeas!  Emily knows they are my favorite flower.
They are visiting various large corporations, to study how doing business is different in Europe from the United States.

Here she is at the EU (European Union) in Brussels.  We wonder who they met with here!

We're so glad she decided to go on this trip! More to come on the "Emily watch"!

Mother's Day - Boston comes home, and flags to Boston

To Boston with Love - these flags were made in response to a blog post I saw - the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild started this project, because of the Boston Marathon bombings.  The flags will be all sent to Boston, and joined together for a massive display of healing.  My older daughter, Emily, lives in Boston (Cambridge, actually), so I felt I must participate in this project, which you can read about here.

I made all of these flags from the fabrics donated by my 15 Minutes Play scrap swap partner, Nathalie - thanks, Nathalie!  I made this, plus another project, and I've hardly made a dent in her generous package of scraps!
Shown above are the flag backs, which include our names and cities - I've made flags for all our family members, and their significant others. (darling daughter, Genevieve, above)

Finished shot out front - I love the American flags in the background.

Best of all - I have ALL THREE daughters home for Mother's Day this year:  Hannah, me, Emily, and Genevieve.  How lucky am I?!!!!

Happy Mother's Day to all!

The Fabulous FUMC 4 - Final Concert

Sunday was the final concert by the fabulous FUMC 4 - my husband, Scott, is at left, above - joined by Ward Feste, Mark Kostelny, and Brett Goad (not shown, Diane Hires at the piano).  These guys sing like angels, and have the best time doing it.  Their concerts in support of the Bridge Communities are the best way I know to spend an afternoon - they are the BEST!

Scott was enjoyin'!

I don't know who was having more fun here! This is one of Scott's favorite people, Peg Schultz - she's so great! This is at the after-concert reception.

So nice to have the family come out to support Scott and the guys - Danny (Hannah's bf), Hannah, Genevieve, Scott, Nick (Gen's bf), and me.  If you missed the concert, they will be selling cd's and/or dvd's.  We will miss their yearly concerts, but the 4 will still sing occasionally in worship. Thanks, guys and Diane, for 16+ years of gorgeous music and inspiration!

Sew Play Date!

Saturday was Sew Play Date day! My friend, Sue (left) brought her sister, Kathleen, and we just sewed and visited - it was so fun!
We worked on flags for the To Boston with Love project ( read about it here). Oh - and Sue brought still-warm coffee cake, yum!

First finished banner section.  We're both going to keep working on them and send them in next week.  They say the banners will be used in a Memorial Day ceremony at a prestigious Boston institution.

Gorgeous spring color at my church.  Spring is finally here!

Happy New Year!

Happy new year!  Here's hoping for peace in our world!  A quote that I carry around with me is from my hometown pastor, from years ago -...
